42. (Part 2)
The creature’s head erupted into a spray of red mist and skull fragments. Hunks of raw meat splashed into the water all around it. The creature teetered a moment, then dropped backwards into the water.
The second creature screamed and leaped out from behind the containment booth. It charged recklessly at Thomas. Huge waves of water churned up on either side of the creature. Thomas realized now that the one coming at him was the smaller of the two beasts. They had killed the wrong one.
So far, the plan was a decisive failure. And the water was now up to his chin.
“Don’t shoot it!” Thomas shouted to Travis and Harper. “Don’t hurt it.”
“Yeah,” Travis said, reloading. “Let’s find a good home for it and watch the love grow.”
